Summer of Love starring Michele Lee at the Ogunquit Playhouse until July 16th!

Summer of Love starring Michele Lee at the Ogunquit Playhouse until July 16th!

Be prepared for a head on collision between cultures when a conservative bride runs away from the altar and runs into a VW Bus full of hippies from Haight-Ashbury, in the East Coast premiere of Summer of Love, on stage June 22 to July 16 at the Ogunquit Playhouse. With a little help from the hippies and dropouts of San Francisco, she comes to realize she has to make her own kind of music! This new musical by Roger Bean showcases the powerful music of the late 1960s by some of the most influential artists of the love generation including The Mamas and the Papas, Donovan, Janis Joplin and Jefferson Airplane, with songs that include: “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” “Get Together,” “Piece of My Heart,” “White Rabbit,” “Spinning Wheel,” “Happy Together” and many more! Take a trip down memory lane, remember your glory days and most of all enjoy the music!

TUMBLING DICE

TUMBLING DICE

I know, I know, you’re here to read about cars; but sometimes we need to drift from the hardware, to the habits.  People express themselves through their vehicles.  Stereotypes abound: rednecks drive pick-ups, blondes cruise in convertibles, and soccer moms haul it all in the mini-van.  Drivers can be who they want to be through their wheels.  To each their own!  However, there is one area that I just plain do not understand.  What’s up with the dangling debris hanging from rear view mirrors?

My exhaustive research has turned up everything from the traditional air fresheners, to the clichéd tumbling dice.  The list includes prayer beads and Mardi Gras beads, St.

Freeport High School band The Modest Proposal was judged best of the MAMM SLAM

Port City Music Hall played host this past Saturday to the MAMM SLAM Finals, where six bands competed for the title of Best High School Band in Maine in front of more than 300 fans.  When the dust had settled, Freeport High School band The Modest Proposal were judged best of the lot and took home a prize package that included $1,000 in cash and a suite of other prizes that should get them well on the way to a career in the music business. The event was put on by the non-profit Maine Academy of Modern Music, with help from the Portland Music Foundation and MaineToday.com.

In addition to the cash prize, The Modest Proposal (www.facebook.com/themodestproposal) also were awarded the opening slot for Saturday night’s all-ages gig with Sparks The Rescue at Port City; a slot to play the Old Port Fest on the Maine Academy of Modern Music stage; and an opening slot for an Alive at 5 summer concert at Monument Square.
