Freeport Flag Ladies Show Support for France | News
FREEPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Freeport Flag Ladies were at their usual spot on top of the hill on Main Street Tuesday morning, but aside from waving American flags like they always do, they were also holding some new signs. The signs painted France’s colors blue, white and red and reading “we stand with France.” The new signs come after Friday’s attacks in Paris and the ladies said this is the first time they have ever actually painted the colors of another nation on one of their signs.
“The French stood behind us when we were attacked on 9/11, they are our oldest alley and there are a lot of people in this country who’s ancestors came from France,” said Freeport Flag Lady, Elaine Greene.
Greene said those reasons are only part of it, the other part is to remind people that we need to protect our freedom and to get involved.
“We have stood here in an attempt to tell you what to think, we've always stood here hoping to be a reminder to get you involved in what you believe in, but get involved in it because our nation needs our people. If ever she needed them she needs them now, to get involved with what they believe in. I believe in American people. I don’t care if you are a Democrat, Republican or an Independent, it doesn’t matter to me. I believe that if your heart is in the right place when you go to fix a problem the solution will be alright because you did it for love,” said Greene.
The flag ladies said they are not sure if they will continue to hold up their France signs next week, they said it will depend on whats going on in the world come next Tuesday.
