FREEPORT, Maine

(NEWS CENTER) -- Freeport police shut down a section of South Freeport Road for two hours Monday after receiving a report that a man was threatening suicide with a gun.

Lt. Sue Nourse told the Portland Press Herald that the father of Bryan Kennedy, 40, of Falmouth called authorities around 10:30 a.m. Monday and said that his son was threatening suicide with a firearm. He said that his son might be headed his ex-wife's wife home on South Freeport Road. Kennedy arrived at the home around 3 p.m. and went inside. Police set up a perimeter around the ex-wife's home and notified neighbors. They also shut down South Freeport Road.

Police tried to contact Kennedy and his ex-wife, who was inside her home, but were unsuccessful. Around 7 p.m., Kennedy and his ex-wife left the home. Police took Kennedy into protective custody.
