Telestroke Network Helping Patients in Mid Coast Region

Mid Coast Hospital recently joined the Telestroke Network at Maine Medical Center's Neuroscience Institute. This development in telemedicine care provides residents in the Mid Coast community around-the-clock access to MMC's 24-hour, on-call stroke neurologists and emergency department acute stroke consultation.

The Telestroke Network—provided through the Maine Medical Center Stroke Program, a Joint Commission Certified Primary Stroke Center—establishes a video conferencing link between Mid Coast's Emergency Department staff and a MMC neurologist.

Bowdoin College Women's Ice Hockey Team Raises Funds for Breast Health Center at Mid Coast Hospital

Members of the Bowdoin College Women's Ice Hockey team recently presented a donation check of $1,175 to benefit the Breast Health Center at Mid Coast Hospital. Team members raised the funds at hockey games this season by accepting donations for Pink Ribbons, the symbol for support of women with breast cancer.

"We are pleased that so many students and fans of our teams joined with us to support this effort," said Assistant Coach, Lisa Batchelor.

The Museum is located at 60 Woods Road in Falmouth, down the road from the Falmouth police Department. It is open Saturdays from 10 AM to 3 PM except for holiday weekends.

On June 11th, the Falmouth Historical Society will be opening its museum for the 2011 season with free refreshments and tours. The opening program is focused on reducing our use of the earth’s natural resources and includes a fun filled and learning experience day for children, parents and grandparents of sheep shearing, Alpaca petting, wool spinning, herb gardening and special displays of 1800’s cooking utensils and Baker’s Chocolate memorabilia. Baked goods and herb plants will also be for sale.

1st Annual Paddle With A Purpose for Pine Tree Camp Challenge Sponsored by Whole Foods Market

This year, Pine Tree Society is celebrating a new dimension of the Paddle for Pine Tree Camp, 1st Annual Paddle With A Purpose sponsored by Whole Foods Market on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Wolfe's Neck Farm in Freeport, Maine.

This is a fundraising event for Pine Tree Camp, a barrier-free summer camp serving 700 Maine children and adults with disabilities all summer. All money raised will ensure that all campers are able to attend regardless of their ability to pay tuition.

The Paddle for Pine Tree Camp Challenge will feature a 2 hour Casco Bay paddle followed by a traditional seaweed lobster bake and barbecue at Wolfe's Neck Farm. The Challenge is adaptable for all skill levels!

Registration Fee: $30 - Includes t-shirt, lobster bake & BBQ!

The "Teacher" archetype has been a significant influence in my adult life.  As an instructor and Polarity therapist, I am often embodying this character.  I find it has even crept into my personal life and relationships.  In my opinion - we are all teachers.   We can either teach by allowing others to connect with their own wisdom, or cling fiercely to our own "dogma", expecting others to adhere to our "right way" of living.

If we really allowed ourselves the possibility of taking on the role of "Teacher", and realized our impact on each other and the world..

Special Olympics Maine Annual Motor Activities Day

Travis Roy Arena: On Wednesday May 18th from 1-2:30  the students of North Yarmouth Academy will play host to Special Olympics Maine for the annual Motor Activities Training Day.

Special Olympic athletes with severe to profound intellectual disabilities will have the opportunity to participate in this inspiring skills event, along with a parade of athletes, and awards presentation.

The Motor Activities event takes place each year at the Travis Roy Ice Arena in Yarmouth and is actually run by the NYA Middle School students (grades 6-8) and staff as a way of completing the schools commitment to community service.
