ROCKLAND, Maine—Passion of place is what the Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show is all about. The best of Maine from across the creative spectrum will be gathered together at the 10th annual show on the Rockland waterfront, August 10-12, 2012. Beautiful boats, unique handcrafted products, and an eclectic mix of high-quality goods for life on the water and the shore will again be on display at Maine’s only in-the-water boat show and coastal lifestyle event.

FREEPORT ROTARY SPONSORS 17th ANNUAL ROAD RACE

Freeport, Maine, May 15, 2012  – The Freeport Rotary Club is sponsoring its 17th Annual Close to the Coast 5K and 10K Road Races. The races will take place on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Winslow Park in Freeport, Maine.   

The race is part of the Winslow Park Family Fun Day, a great time for families with all the events and park admission free of charge.  The events start with a Kids’ 1K Fun Run at 10 am with prizes for kids provided by Wilbur’s of Maine.  Additional, there is free admission to the Winslow Park for the day.  Hotdogs, ice cream, games, swimming, activities, playground and a moon bounce house will be available.

The 80th Anniversary Season at the Ogunquit Playhouse kicks off with Always, Patsy Cline

The 80th Anniversary Season at the Ogunquit Playhouse kicks off with Always, Patsy Cline, on stage from May 23 through June 16. This show is told through the letters of star-struck fan Louise Seger, portrayed by Emmy Award winning actress, Sally Struthers. This popular musical, which has enjoyed great success both off-Broadway and across the nation, is based on the true story of Cline’s friendship with Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in l961 and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. Featuring the unforgettable hits of the Country Music mega-star, this funny and touching tribute celebrates the career and life of the singer who died tragically in a plane crash in 1963.

Public Baked Bean Supper

A public baked bean supper will be held on Saturday, May 26th, 5:00pm at the First Congregational Church, Route 115, in Gray, Maine.  Baked beans, casseroles, salads, homemade breads and desserts will be available.  Adults, $8.00, under 12 $4.00. 

Public Baked Bean Supper - Yarmouth

A public baked bean and macaroni and cheese supper will be held from 5:00pm until 6:30pm on Saturday, May 26 at the First Parish Congregational Church, 116 Main Street, Yarmouth.  Featured are three types of baked beans, cole slaw, macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, homemade pies, biscuits and beverages.  Adults $8.00 and children $4.00.

  • Visits by McGruff, Crusher, and Sparky the Fire Dog
  • Police K9 and Brunswick Fire Department 'Smoke House' Demonstrations and More
  • Bike Obstacle Course -- Event Tote Bags for each child completing obstacle course

National Charter Schools Week – Maine has joined the movement

In 2011, Maine joined 40 other states in allowing public charter school options for families of all income levels.  On May 1, 2012, the Maine Charter School Commission issued its first application package for potential founders of these new public education options, which are free to parents and open to all children without admissions tests.

          The Maine Association for Charter Schools (MACS) will celebrate the great work accomplished by public charter schools across the country, where over 5,000 public chartered schools are serving 1.8 million students.
