More than 8 years ago a group of visionary residents developed a goal to extend SCHOOL STREET in Freeport, connecting Main and Bow Streets, They hoped that this extension would accomplish several important missions -
• Significantly improve traffic flow in the Village
• Encourage pedestrian and bicycle activity between the Village Center and Mast Landing School/Bow Street Market areas
• Connect neighborhoods with each other
• Support new residential development in the Flying Point Road/Pleasant Hill Road area
More recently the Town Council approved zoning changes which created a Village Mixed-Use Zone allowing a combination of residential, recreational and commercial uses to serve and connect neighbors.
L.L.Bean’s donation of the Leon Gorman Park to the people of Freeport contributed to the vision for the area.
