SCOUTING FOR FOOD in Freeport and Pownal

The Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts of Freeport and Pownal have joined together in the month of November to fill the food pantry at Freeport Community Services.  Over the last few weeks the Boy Scouts have placed collection boxes for items at the Freeport Community Library, Freeport Town Hall, and many of the area banks and churches.  Collection boxes were also placed in the Freeport and Pownal schools. Bow Street Market hosted live food drives with not only the Boy Scouts, but also with students from the Freeport High School Rotary Interact Club for the past three weeks.
The Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts began their efforts November 13th by going door-to-door in Freeport and Pownal, leaving bags from Shaws and flyers describing the project at each home.  The flyers asked community members to fill the bags with non-perishable food, paper goods, or personal care items.
All efforts will come together in celebration this Saturday, November 20th. The Freeport & Pownal Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts will blanket the neighborhoods, returning to each home to pick up the bags of food from their friends and neighbors, and delivering it to Freeport Community Services (53 Depot St., Freeport) between the hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Boy Scouts will retrieve the collection boxes and deliver the items to FCS as well. A Girl Scout troop will also be at the FCS food pantry all day, helping folks bring in the donations and sorting the food.  Shaw’s market is hosting a day-long food drive on November 20th as well.
